Obituary of Liberato F. Luberto
Liberato “Lou” F. Luberto, 73, of Riverdale, formerly of Pompton Plains, passed away on November 17, 2020.
Born in Paterson, Lou was the son of Liberato and Mary Luberto. He married his high school sweetheart, Janet Woodruff, and the couple settled in Pompton Plains to raise their family. Lou and Janet owned J-Lynn’s Sweet Shop on the Newark Pompton Turnpike for over 10 years and he later retired from Wayne Auto Sales as sales manager.
Lou was an avid car enthusiast and spent at least 2 hours a day at the gym. He loved visiting the jersey shore, especially Wildwood, and was happiest when with his family.
Lou is lovingly survived by his children, Michael, Jeffrey and his wife Michele, and Amy Mehl and her husband Kurt; his sister, Carol Brown; and his grandchildren, Julia, Ryan, Michael, Kailey, Kyle, Sydney, and Madison. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Janet.
Visiting hours will be held from 1:00 to 4:00 pm Saturday, November 21 at the M. John Scanlan Funeral Home, Pompton Plains. Cremation will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated.
Due to current restrictions, 37 guests are allowed in the funeral home at any time. Please keep your visit brief, if possible, to allow others to also pay their respects and dress accordingly in case you have to wait outside. Masks are required and contact tracing information will be taken.
