James Oxley, 86, a longtime resident of Lincoln Park, died Friday, October 9, 2020.
Born in Paterson, James was raised in the Mountainview Section of Wayne, and graduated from Wayne Hills High School. He married Christine O'Brien in 1955, and together they briefly lived in Totowa before settling in Lincoln Park in 1961.
James served in the Army in his twenties, and was stationed in Germany. Returning home, he started his career, and worked for more than thirty years at Mack-Wayne Plastics in Wayne. "Big Red," as he was known by his coworkers, continued working for another 17 years for Organon Pharmaceuticals as a Facilities Manager, retiring at the age of 70.
When James wasn't working, he enjoyed toiling with his antique 1931 Model A or his GTO, and regularly attended car shows. He also loved to get together with colleagues on the golf course, or enjoyed the outdoors while hunting and fishing. James kept himself busy, and took great pride in caring for his home and garden. Most of all, he enjoyed the company of his canine friends and dancing to his favorite Irish music in the garage.
James is lovingly survived by his wife, Christine; his children, Dr. David James Oxley and his wife Celia, Kevin Oxley and his wife Rose, and Donna Viviani; his brother, George Oxley; his sister, Dorothy Wyckoff; and six grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister, Loretta Battersby.
