Madeline Van Lenten, 94, a longtime resident of Pompton Plains, died Friday, July 3, 2020.
Born at home on Black Oak Ridge Road in Wayne, Madeline was the eldest of three children born to Jacob and Madeline Van Lenten. She spent most of her youth in Wayne, but moved to Pompton Plains as a young teenager, settling into a home her father built himself.
Sadly, Madeline's mother died in 1950. Madeline and her sister, then, became second mothers to their baby brother Jacob, who was just seven at the time. Due to the great care and love she gave him as a child, Jacob was more than willing to care for his sister in her final years.
Madeline is survived by her brother, Jacob; her nieces, Debbie Janke and her husband Michael, and Julie Drol and her husband Brad; as well as her great-nieces, Kayla and Kelly. She was predeceased by her sister, Dorothy Williams, in 2019.
