Obituary of Karen Drada

Karen Baldinger Drada, 63, of Pompton Plains, died February 10, 2020.

Born in Glen Ridge,  Karen was one of five daughters born to Frederick and Eugenia Baldinger.  Raised in the Pompton Plains section of Pequannock, Karen was a 1974 graduate of Pequannock Township High School.

She went on to earn her B.A. in Mathematics from Rutgers University.  Securing a job with AT&T in Basking Ridge, she worked in Information Technology and HR. She retired early from that company after more than 20 years, last holding the position of Finance Manager.

While working at AT&T, Karen had earned her MBA from Fairleigh Dickinson University.

After retiring, Karen moved to Melbourne, Florida, where she took up many forms of dancing - contra, ballroom and jazzercise were just a few of her favorites.  Dancing led to many enduring friendships and fun memories.

Karen loved to live life to the fullest, and was always seeking the next adventure.  She loved to hike mountains or climb tall buildings to see where she could find the best vista.  She even tried skydiving once in pursuit of that goal, and earned her pilot's license at the Lincoln Park airport years ago.

She held a great appreciation for photographs, and often had a camera in hand in hopes of preserving the wonderful times she spent with her family and friends.  Her favorite pastime was to enjoy a beautiful sunrise, and would try to catch that as often as she could.

Though Karen did not like to cook, she loved to eat!  She was a grateful recipient of the many dishes her sisters and friends would make for her, each one being more delicious than the last.

She was lucky to be surrounded by many loving family members and friends throughout her life, and spending time with them was central to Karen's life.  She will be greatly missed by all those that love her.

She is lovingly survived by her sisters, Jane Burt, Louise Rovinsky, Brenda Fracaroli, and Lorna O'Leary; many nieces and nephews; and "her sweetheart," Ron McMillan and his family.

Visiting hours will be held from 4 to 8 pm Friday, February 14 at the M. John Scanlan Funeral Home, Pompton Plains.  A memorial service will be held 10 am Saturday at Grace Chapel at the First Reformed Church, Pompton Plains.  Interment of cremains will follow at the First Reformed Cemetery immediately following the service and all are invited to attend a repast following the burial at Grace Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Karen's memory to Mary's Place by the Sea, 22 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove, NJ 07756 or the Brevard Zoo, 8225 N. Wickham Road, Melbourne, FL 32940 would be greatly appreciated
