Obituary of Richard W. Lindemann

Richard W. Lindemann, a long time resident of Pompton Plains, passed away peacefully January 29, 2020.  Richard was born to Willy and Marie Lindemann August 6, 1924 in Bloomfield NJ. During World War II he served as a combat medic for the 41st Infantry Division in the Pacific where he earned the Bronze Star.

He graduated from Susquehanna University in 1948, married his college sweetheart in 1949 and settled in Pompton Plains where together they raised two children, Susan and Gary.

Richard worked as a paint salesman and retired from Sherwin Williams in 1989.  He was a proud member of American Legion Post 242 where he served as Chaplain and chaired the Boys State Committee for many years.  He attended Jacksonville Chapel, was an avid stamp collector, loved Big Band swing music and was a lifelong Yankee fan.  

He is survived by his wife Gertrude; daughter Susan Bailey and her husband Boice; son Gary and his wife Yvonne; two grandchildren, Julie Holmes and her husband Rigel, and Brad Bailey and his wife Rebecca; two great grandsons, and another on the way.  He will be missed by all.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the American Legion Post 242 700 Newark Pompton Turnpike, Pompton Plains NJ 07444 to support the Boys State program. 

A memorial service will be celebrated at 10 am Saturday, February 1, 2020 at the Interfaith Chapel at Cedar Crest Village, 1 Cedar Crest Drive, Pompton Plains. Burial will be held privately.
