Ellen L. Osborne, 96, of Bloomingdale, formerly a longtime resident of Teaneck, died Friday, November 29, 2019.
Born in Lowville, NY, Ellen was the daughter of William and Corinne Hamblin. Raised in Lowville, she graduated from the Lowville Academy in June of 1945, and went on to earn her degree in nursing from the St. Lawrence State Hospital School of Nursing in Ogdensburg, NY, in October of 1945.
Marrying James Osborne, also of the Lowville area, in September of 1945, the couple moved to New Jersey, where James had earned employment with a roofing company. Living first in post-war apartment housing in Maywood and New Milford, they settled in Teaneck, where they would raise three children.
Ellen was a stay-at-home mom while her children were young, but returned to nursing once they were school age. She was employed as a Post- Surgical RN at Holy Name Hospital, and later at Inglemoor Nursing Home in Englewood, where she gave great care to the geriatric patients.
Ellen loved nothing more than a good book. She was a frequent visitor of both the Teaneck and Bloomingdale Public Libraries, and was known to go through 7-10 books in a single week! The staff in Bloomingdale, in fact, got to know her tastes quite well, and would regularly recommend literature that they thought she may like.
Ellen was a devout Catholic, and was a longtime parishioner of St. Joseph's R.C. Church in Bogota until moving to Bloomingdale 13 years ago, and at that time, became a parishioner of St. Mary's R.C. Church in Pompton Lakes. Religion was always at the center of her life, and even in her travels, would focus on Holy Sites in Italy, Israel, France and Portugal. She enjoyed many of those trips with her good friend, Edith, whom she met as members of the Guild of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace.
Ellen is survived by her daughters, Lynn Osborne, and Victoria Osborne and her husband Judson White. She was predeceased by her husband, James, and her son, Bruce, as well as her four siblings.
A Memorial Mass will be held 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's RC Church, Pompton Lakes. Cremation is private.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Bloomingdale Public Library, 101 Hamburg Tpke. #1, Bloomingdale, NJ 07403 in Ellen's memory would be greatly appreciated by the Osborne family.
