Richard W. Armstrong died peacefully on August 30, 2018 after a short illness. He was 86.
Richard was born to Irish immigrants in Chestnut Hill, PA. He attended Germantown Friends School where he was president of his class. He matriculated from Harvard College, graduating Summa Cum Laude. After serving as a Lieutenant in the Navy, Richard obtained an A.M. degree from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. He then entered government service atthe Atomic Energy Commission and NASA, before becoming the Deputy Project Manager of the Head Start Program. Richard went on to a successful 23-year career at Chase Manhattan Bank, where he became CFO of the Commercial Sector.
Richard is survived by his wife, Barbara Armstrong, their sons Richard and James, and their extended families. He is remembered as a man of great character, integrity and compassion, who cared deeply for his family.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, October 20 at the Cedar Crest Village Chapel, 1 Cedar Crest Drive, Pompton Plains. Cremation was private.
