Visitation at Funeral Home
Obituary of Barbara Evelyn Galley
Barbara Evelyn Galley, or "Barb" as most know her, passed away at home on Thursday, August 1, 2018. She was 80 years old.
Born in Teaneck, NJ, Barb was the daughter of Carl and Dorothy Darby. Raised in and around Bergen County (and briefly in Washington State), Barb attended Teaneck High School, where she met Arthur Galley, Jr., also a student of the high school. The two fell in love and in 1954, they married.
Living first in Saddle Brook, the couple moved to Pequannock in 1967, where they raised their children. Though Barb was primarily a homemaker, she also worked a variety of jobs as well, including at Clothing Town and Calico Bow, as well as teaching ceramics to both children and adults out of her home. Always a talented artist, Barb possessed an affinity for sketching and painting, as well as other mediums.
An extremely intelligent woman, she was known to beat to the tune of her own drum. She routinely watched Jeopardy with her children and her cat, Pan, and was known to be a wiz at the game, always seeming to know the answers to the trivia on the show. She was a great listener, and was never judgmental…a character trait few possess. Barb was always comfortable with technology, too, and was easily able to keep up with her grandson's via their social media pages.
Barb was lucky to have six grandsons, all of whom she dearly loved and held tight relationships with. The boys were always welcome in her home, and their special movie nights with Grandma Barb will always be cherished.
Barb is lovingly survived by her daughters, Jenna Galley, and Cindy Schott and her husband Steven; her daughter-in-law, Eileen Galley; her brother, Carl Darby and his wife Kathi; her sister, Gail Darby; and her grandsons, Nick Schott and his wife Laura, Doug Schott and his fiancé Katie Messineo, Kevin Schott, Brian Galley, Sean Galley, and Eric Galley.
She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur Galley, Jr.; her daughter, Debbie Galley; her son, Ken Galley; and her sister, Dorothy Clifton, as well as her parents, Carl and Dorothy Darby.
Visiting hours will be Friday, August 3, from 4-8 pm at the funeral home. The family will gather at the funeral home again on Saturday at 10 am before proceeding to an 11:30 a.m. graveside service at Hillside Cemetery in Lyndhurst.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Barb's memory to The Friends of the Peapack & Gladstone Library, PO Box 369, Peapack, NJ 07977 or to ASPEN (Autism Spectrum Education Network), 9 Aspen Circle, Edison, NJ 08820 would be greatly appreciated.
