Catherina (Kooy) Okma, known to friends and family as Tina, passed away on Tuesday, July 10, at the age of 85.
Tina was born in Holland in 1933 and immigrated to the United States in 1949 with her parents and six siblings. She met, fell in love, and married Peter Okma on May 5, 1956. Together they raised two children (Roy and Karin) in New Jersey. She mourned the loss of her husband in 2009 and lived the last several years in Saratoga Springs, NY. She was active in church and community and will be remembered for her strong faith, unconditional love, excellent cooking, abundant hospitality, and wry sense of humor.
Her life and legacy is remembered with joy by her children Roy (Jane) Okma and Karin (Bob) Drosdick; her grandchildren Peter, MJ, Connor, and Dana; her siblings Frieda Dykstra, Gys Kooy, Betsy Snope, Willy Wallendal, Peter Kooy Jr., and Hans Kooy.
A memorial service will by held at the First Reformed Church of Pompton Plains (529 Newark Pompton Turnpike, Pompton Plains NJ07444) on Sunday, July 15 at 1:00 pm. She will be buried beside her husband in the church cemetery. The burial service will be private for the immediate family. A second memorial service will be held in Saratoga NY at a later date.
