Obituary of William Tatz
William R. Tatz, 84, of Palm Beach, FL, formerly of Highland Lakes, Franklin Lakes, Wayne, and Cedar Grove, NJ, peacefully passed on in the early morning of June 5, 2018.
Born in Newark, Bill was the son of the late Dewey and Mary Tatz. He was a loving and dutiful son. He would love to tell stories of jobs he had while growing up in Belleville, NJ, from caddying to offering rides on a goat-driven cart. His Belleville High School graduation picture's caption read, "Bill plans to open his own business and become a success".
He was renowned as a hard worker and shrewd businessman which facilitated his founding of Good and Tasty Products in 1964, shortly after the birth of his 6th child with his beloved wife, Eileen. They then parlayed his success to later incorporate 3 businesses to create William Tatz Industries, Inc. which he would later hand the reins of over to his children. Now 54 years later, his company--his pride and joy--still thrives, and is entering its 3rd generation of honoring the principles he instilled. He also was an officer and member of the Allied Trades #9 of the Baking Industry for many years.
He loved travel, outdoors, outfitting his many homes, luxury items--especially his Rolls Royce and his first Cadillac (garage-kept to this day since 1975), his children and grandchildren and many friends; but most of all he loved his wife of 65 years, Eileen (nee Maloney).
Bill has been a resident of Florida for the last 15 years, but he and Eileen still enjoyed summers "at the lake" in a lovely home they designed in Highland Lakes. During their many years there, the house was greatly admired for its beautiful and ornamental landscape, largely kept up through his pride and dedication to this treasured home of theirs.
William is survived by his wife, Eileen (nee Maloney); his children, Marilyn Gaesser, William Tatz, Robert Tatz, Edward Tatz, Richard Tatz and his wife Jessica, and Joseph Tatz and his wife Barbara; 20 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his twin brother, Charles Tatz, who also is a Florida resident. He was predeceased by his Mother, Father, brother Dewey Tatz; and sister Madeline Martin, and 2 Grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be held this Friday, June 8, from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at M. John Scanlan Funeral Home, in Pompton Plains, NJ. A funeral Mass will be held Saturday, June 9, at 9:30 am at St. Mary’s Church in Pompton Lakes. Entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover.
In lieu of flowers, donations in William's memory to Alzheimer's Research would be greatly appreciated.
Respectfully serving families for generations
