Obituary of Bernadine T. McGill

It is with great sadness that the family of Bernadine T. McGill announces her passing on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at the age of 91.

Born in Lock Haven, PA, Bernadine was the daughter of Francis and Sarah O’Brien. Raised in the Williamsport, PA, area, she graduated from high school there before studying at the Parson’s School of Design in New York City. While living in Paterson and commuting to school in the city, she met Daniel McGill. The two fell in love, and in 1950, they married. Settling first in Paterson, they moved to Pequannock in 1962, and together raised four children.

In 1977, Bernadine opened her bridal shop on the Newark-Pompton Turnpike in Pequannock. Running the shop was a labor of love that she enjoyed for 15 years, retiring in 1992.

Bernadine is lovingly survived by her children, Colleen (McGill) Henderson, Dan McGill and his wife Colleen, and Shawn McGill; her grandchildren: Shannon (Henderson) Dalpe and her husband Mike, George Henderson and his wife Cait, and Marissa (Henderson) Hunter and her husband Gary, Dan McGill, Erin McGill, Leslie (McGill) Bleaken and her husband Craig, Marty McGill, Kelly McGill, Dana McGill and her husband Chris, and Tracy McGill; and her 13 great grandchildren, Tyler, Noella, Aiden, Nicholas, Nathan, Cadan, Cavan, Bradley, Hollis, Eamon, Avery, Connor and Rhys.

She was sadly predeceased by her husband, Daniel, her daughter, Denise, and her granddaughter, Stephanie.

Visiting hours will be Thursday from 4-8 pm at the M. John Scanlan Funeral Home. A funeral service will be 10 am Friday at the funeral home, followed by burial at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Totowa.

In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in Bernadine’s memory would be greatly appreciated by the McGill family.
