Obituary of Helen Flynn

Helen Elizabeth  Flynn, 97, of Paramus and Wayne passed away on May 31, 2018 with her children by her side.

Helen was a funny, intelligent, patient and devoted mom, grandmother  and great grandmother. Her deep faith in God sustained her through everything in her life. She was a voracious reader, loved listening to music, planting flowers and tending to the  garden of her senior apartment building. She took up watercolors at the age of 80. Helen  lived independently until 96. She then moved to Brookdale Assisted Living where she enjoyed reading, bingo , arts and crafts and chair Tai chi. She was “one in a million.”

Helen had six children, eight grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Helen is survived by two daughters: Denise Stone and husband John, and her daughter Cheryl Nita. Helen is also survived by two sons: Brian Flynn and his wife Beth, and Kevin Flynn and his wife Betty.

Helen greatly loved her grandchildren: Elena, Kym, John,  Sarah, Shane, Jolene, Timothy, and Kathleen, She took tremendous joy in the pictures and accomplishments  of her great grandchildren: A.J.,  Ava, J.D., Giuliana, Draven, Hayley, and Matthew.  Helen was predeceased by her husband, James Henry Flynn; two daughters, Elaine Flynn and Valerie McCall; and her sister, Julia Moore.

Visiting hours are 2 to 5 pm Sunday, June 3 at the M. John Scanlan Funeral Home. A Service will be held at 4 pm.  Family and friends are invited to the home of Denise Stone from 6-9 PM that evening.

Interment will be held 2 pm Monday at Maryrest Cemetery, Mahwah, gathering at the funeral home at 1 PM.

In lieu of flowers donations to St. Jude’ s children’s hospital would be very special.
