Patricia Ann Morris-Roworth (nee Rourke), 75, of Warren, formerly of Oak Ridge, passed away on April 23, 2018.
The oldest of seven children born to the late Harold and Ellen Rourke, Patricia grew up in the Packanack Lake section of Wayne. She was a member of the first graduating class of DePaul High School also in Wayne and was a nationally ranked bicyclist. She continued her education at St. Joseph’s Nursing School and Jersey City State College and earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing. She had a long career as a Registered Nurse, working as a school nurse, critical care nurse at Wayne General Hospital and finished as a hospice nurse at St. Barnabas Healthcare.
Patricia married James V. Morris, Sr. in 1963 and the couple settled in Oak Ridge where they raised three children. She was a longtime parishioner of St. Thomas the Apostle RC Church and instilled in her children the same deep faith she had. Among her happiest moments were singing and playing guitar with her brothers and sisters and children. Patricia volunteered as a Girl Scout leader and loved bike riding, tennis , long walks, and visiting the shore. Above all else, Patricia loved her family and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Patricia was predeceased by her husband, James V. Morris, Sr. and her brother, Joseph Rourke. She is survived by her husband, Edwin Roworth, Jr.; her son, James V. Morris, Jr. and his wife Suzanne; her daughters, Elizabeth Ann Rose and her husband Charles, and Eileen Basket and her husband Tyrone; her brothers, Jack Rourke and his wife Robin, and Dan Rourke and his wife Janice; her sisters, Eileen Erbe, Joan Priory and her husband Rick, and Barbara Gray and her husband Wayne; and her grandchildren, Tyrone Jr., Joshua, Luke, Noah, Blaise, Josiah, and Seamus Basket, and Alexandra, James III, and Madeleine Morris.
Visiting hours will be held from 5 to 9 pm Wednesday, April 25 at the M. John Scanlan Funeral Home, Pompton Plains. A funeral Mass will be held 11 am Thursday at St. Joseph’s RC Church, West Milford. Interment will follow at St. Thomas the Apostle RC Church, Oak Ridge.
