Obituary of Maria Rose McCarthy

Maria ?Marie? Rose McCarthy, 80, of Pompton Plains, formerly of Paramus, died Wednesday, December 27, 2006 at Chilton Memorial Hospital in Pompton Plains. Born in Hackensack, Marie was the daughter of the late Anthony and Antoinette (nee Cimino) Bruno. Growing up there, Marie graduated Hackensack High School and went on to work as a secretary for the Bendix Corporation, where she met her future husband, Patrick J. McCarthy. Marrying in October of 1951, Marie and Patrick settled in Midland Park, where they raised five children before moving to Paramus in 1964. As a homemaker, Marie loved to take care of her family, and took great pride in all she did. According to her children, she was an excellent cook, and could sing like a bird. After celebrating their fiftieth wedding anniversary in 2001, Marie and Patrick moved to Cedar Crest Village in Pompton Plains in March of 2002. While living in Pompton Plains, she became a parishioner of Our Lady of Good Council R.C. Church. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, the now retired Brigadier General Patrick J. McCarthy of Pompton Plains; her son, Patrick J. McCarthy Jr. of Morristown; her daughters, Patricia Brady and her husband Mark of Cary, North Carolina, Kathleen Hoyt of East Rochester, New Hampshire, Maria Doerr and her husband Kevin of Oradell, and Jacqueline Micera and her husband Robert of Guttenberg; her brother, John Bruno of Madison; and her grandchildren, Alexandra Hoyt, Michael Brady, Kristen Doerr and Michael Doerr. Funeral services will commence 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, and will proceed to an 11 a.m. Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Good Council R.C. Church in Pompton Plains. Cremation will be private. Visiting hours will be Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations to Eva?s Village, 393 Main Street, Paterson, NJ 07501 or to Feed The Children, P.O. Box 36, Oklahoma City, OK 73101 would be greatly appreciated by her family.
