Arthur L. Barbi Sr., 93, of Pompton Plains, died Wednesday, January 3, 2007 at his home in Pompton Plains.
Born in Jersey City, Arthur was the son of the late Peter and Matilda (nee Thiessen) Barbi. Growing up in West New York, he graduated Memorial High School in 1931 and went on to a career as a pipe fitter with Local 274 in Ridgefield Park.
Marrying Jean Doan in 1948, the couple settled in Lodi, raising two sons.
After more than 40 years, Arthur retired in 1978, but was a member of Local 274 for more than 65 years. In his retirement, he enjoyed traveling.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jean of Pompton Plains; his sons, Arthur Jr. of Pompton Plains and George and his wife Sharon of Suwanee, Georgia; and his granddaughters, Karen and Jennifer Barbi.
Funeral services will commence 9 a.m. Saturday morning at the funeral home, and will proceed to a 10 a.m. Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Good Council R.C. Church in Pompton Plains. Burial will follow at Crest Haven Memorial Park in Clifton.
Visiting hours will be Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
