Obituary of Margaret McDonough

Margaret McDonough, 91, of Pompton Plains, passed away on March 13, 2023.

Born in Ventry on the Dingle Peninsula, Ireland, Margaret was the daughter of Patrick and Ellen Fitzgerald. She came to the US as a teenager, shortly after she met her husband of 52 years, Edmund McDonough. The couple ultimately settled in Oradell to raise their two daughters. Margaret loved getting together with family and friends while enjoying a refreshing “beverage” and dancing to her favorite music. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and adored and doted on her three grandchildren including her grandog Austin. 

Margaret is lovingly survived by her daughters, Margaret McDonough, and Dianne Halbach and her husband William; her brother, Oliver Fitzgerald; her sister, Siobhan Cussen; her grandchildren, Michael and Janine Macrone and Sean Lake; her great grandchildren, Michael and Scarlett; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial Mass will be held on St. Patrick's Day (fittingly, as it was her favorite holiday), Friday, March 17, 2023 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, Pompton Plains.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Margaret's memory to the John Theurer Cancer Center in Hackensack would be greatly appreciated by her family.
