Thom was one of the most creative and innovative scientists that I ever knew. I purchased one of his large prototype liquid chromatography columns from his Alpheus company in the eighties and this became the foundation for the DCL(Biovectra) company´s purification technology. A technology used to this day. Tom knew a lot about a lot of things and could converse at any level with anyone. He treated everyone the same way and showed them the same respect. I can still picture him bouncing through the Whatman laboratory, cigarette and coffee in hand expounding about some topic or other that most of us had trouble even knowing how to spell.
