Obituary of Alexander M. Knox Jr.
Alexander M. Knox Jr, AKA “Bud” a resident of Pompton Plains, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family on January 7, 2022.
Al “Bud” was born in Newark NJ, and grew up in North Arlington, then moved to 27 Lincoln Ave in Pompton Plains in 1950. He was married to Carolyn DeYoung Knox in 1973 and purchased their home at 100 Newark Pompton Turnpike in Riverdale.
Al lived an amazing life, after graduating Butler High School, Al joined the United States Navy and served during the Korean War from 1952-1956. He was a 3rd Class Petty Officer Pipe Fitter and he was a mine sweeper on both The Harold and The Rodman Destroyer.
After proudly serving our country, Al “Bud” moved to California where he worked for O’Neil (Before O’Neil was Popular) (Actually working out of his garage) he would shape surfboards. (Even surfed with Dennis from the Beach Boys) He also worked as a welder and a pit crew mechanic in California. Al’s favorite past time was restoring custom classic cars with his son Craig and going to swap meets to find that hidden gem.
Al is survived by his 3 loving children, 2 daughter in laws, former wife, and 2 grand dogs. Paul and Swava Knox, Craig and Karla Knox, and Daddy’s Little Girl, Megan Knox, along with Carolyn Knox (former wife) and grand dogs Luna Bears and Harley boy.
Visiting hours will be held from 4 to 8 pm Monday, January 10th at the funeral home. A funeral service will be held 10 am Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will follow at First Reformed Cemetery with a repast following at Tavern 5.
