Obituary of Theresa Walsh

Bridget Theresa Walsh (“Terry” and nee Fleming) of Franklin Lakes, New Jersey peacefully passed away on February 11, 2021.  She is survived by her husband of 59 years Edward David Walsh, daughter Maureen Walsh Sheehan and husband, Kevin of Glen Rock, New Jersey, son James G. Walsh and wife, Marina of Kensington, Maryland, son David F. Walsh and wife, Barbara of Oakland, New Jersey, and six grandchildren Conor Sheehan, Margaret Sheehan, Jack Walsh, Grace Walsh, Timothy Walsh and Ryan Walsh. 

 

Terry was born in New York, New York in 1931 and raised by her Irish-born parents in The Bronx, New York.  She entered religious life with the Franciscan Sisters of the Poor in 1947.  In her religious life she earned her nursing credentials at Seton Hall University and worked in hospitals with the Franciscan Sisters in Liberty, Warwick and Schenectady, New York as well as Newark, New Jersey.  She was dispensed of her vows in 1958 and returned to nursing at several New York City hospitals.  Her nursing specialties included maternity and trauma care.

 

She married Edward David Walsh in 1961 and together they raised their three children.  In retirement she worked for many years at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Pompton Lakes, New Jersey.  With her perfect penmanship, she served as the official sacramental registrar recording sacraments for the parish.  On June 30, 2018, she was awarded the Franciscan Order’s Medal of Saint Francis.

 

A visitation will be held on February 17 from 2:00-4:00 PM and 7:00-9:00 PM at M. John Scanlan Funeral Home.  A funeral Mass will be held on February 18 at 10:00 AM at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church, Pompton Lakes, NJ. Those wishing to view the funeral Mass via Zoom can complete the Sign up sheet by clicking here. To best protect the privacy of the family, only those who complete the sign-up will receive the zoom link.
