Barbara Greene of Butler, 66, passed away January 26, 2021.
Barbara was born to Henry and Ruth Walters and grew up in Paterson NJ. She attended JFK High School in Paterson then moved on to William Paterson University for her education. She then settled in West Milford NJ where she raised her four children.
Barbara would love a good game of Bingo and watching movies. She especially loved going to the theaters, her favorite was always Thor. Barbara was part of the XYZ Club and enjoyed being around her peers. She cherished the time she spent with family and enjoyed her yearly trips to Florida with her family but also cherished the Sunday dinners they would have altogether at her house. Family was important to Barbara. She would make it a routine to spend time with them. You would normally see her at her daughter’s home Tuesday and Fridays playing games, watching movies, or having a nice dinner together. She would make sure to never miss their monthly date at Chili’s. Barbara was a proud grandmother and treasured the moments she spent time with the grandchildren the most.
Barbara’s life was filled with joy from the ones she loved the most. Her life was not always joyful. What most will not know are the true struggles that Barbara went through. At a time in her life, she was homeless. She was able to overcome this by the strength she had and the hope she had in herself. Later, she was once again challenged by life. Back in July of 1992, she was hit by a drunk driver and suffered a massive stroke and left her mind “child like”. It was a difficult time for her mentally and physically. She had the willpower to get herself back to normal, but she still had difficulties gaining what she lost and had still had trouble walking. Her goal was to get herself to the point where she could be independent. She had so much determination, in time, she was able to achieve her goal of being able to live on her own but with some help, which she was still proud of herself and loved every minute of the outcome. She will be known for the love she had for her family and close friends but also, will be known for the strength she had for herself.
Barbara is survived by her children Christina Sanders and her husband Thomas; her sons Shawne, Robert and David Greene; her grandchildren Matthew Sanders, Haylee Sanders and Colin Tiso; and her sister Linda Clark.
Due to the COVID 19 pandemic funeral services are private.
