Ziggy Surowiec, 64, of Haskell, died Sunday, January 3, 2021.
Born in Stany, Poland, Ziggy was the son of Wladyslaw and Maria Surowiec. He moved to the United States at the age of 22. He was splitting time as a truck driver for FedEx and worked for New Era Converting Machinery ( formerly Lembo) as a Machinist. After some time he started his own construction business which he ran for over 20 years before returning back to New Era Converting Machinery in Paterson for the last 5 years.
Ziggy was a father of three, and greatly enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was hardworking, generous, and was always willing to help his family and friends. He was skilled in many trades and could practically do anything when it came to home projects. He loved to entertain at his home, care for his pets and spend time outdoors. He is lovingly survived by his children, Ola Jurkowski and her husband Stan, Dorothy McCoy and her husband Mike, and Vojtek Surowiec and his wife Patricia; his sister, Halina Surowiec and her daughter Yvonne; his brothers, Richard and Jan Surowiec; and his grandchildren, Jimmy and Patrick McCoy, Benjamin Surowiec, and Julia, Eric and Matthew Jurkowski. He was predeceased by his companion, Marzena Kukawska.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph's Church in Passaic at 10:00 AM on Saturday followed by visitation from 1-4 pm at the M. John Scanlan Funeral Home in Pompton Plains. Due to the pandemic regulations, capacity in the funeral home is limited to 37 people at a time. A heated tent will be set up outside the funeral home for the comfort of guests while they wait. Masks are required and contact tracing information will be recorded.
