Kathleen E. Wilk
Kathleen E. Wilk, 67, a longtime resident of Pompton Plains, died Monday, July 6, 2020.
Born in Jersey City, Kathy was the daughter of Robert and Elizabeth Lewis. Raised in Pompton Plains, she attended Holy Spirit School and later DePaul High School in Wayne, graduating in 1971.
Kathy married Richard Wilk in 1975, and soon after the couple settled in Pompton Plains. While running their business, Wilk Construction, Kathy and Rich raised two daughters and a son. Family was everything to Kathy; she would do just about anything to be surrounded by her kids and grandchildren. Despite having a big family cruise cancelled due to the pandemic, they were able to spend a week together in the Carolinas just two weeks ago.
Kathy was a great storyteller -- though her kids weren't sure which of her stories were fact and which were fiction. She could embellish the best of tales, and her husband accounts to seeing his kids' eyes light up each time she indulged them with a story.
Kathy also delighted in pulling pranks on her children (like listening to their footsteps and turning off the breaker to each room, scaring them around the house). She was fun, and loved a party. The kids knew they could always bring an army of friends home, because mom would have food and drinks ready for a crowd in a heartbeat.
For the last twelve years, Kathy loved taking on the role of grandma. Blessed with eight grandchildren, she delighted in being with them all, and spoiled them with frequent surprise purchases and always had a bowl full of candy ready at her house for those little hands.
In addition to her work with the family business, Kathy was a Realtor, employed by Weichert Realty and Weichert Relocation Services.
She is lovingly survived by her husband of 45 years, Rich; her children, Jennifer Formato and her husband Gus, Chrissie Bordeaux and her husband Kelly, and Timothy Wilk and his wife Heather; her grandchildren, Skyler, Parker and Colin Bordeaux, Shayn, Callan and Maggie Wilk, and Jack and Luke Formato; and her sister, Patricia Ferguson and her husband Dane.
She was predeceased by her parents, as well as her brother, Mike Lewis, and her sister, Mary Ellen Choate.
A memorial visitation will be held at the Wilk home, 15 White Birch Avenue, Pompton Plains, on Friday, July 10, 2020 from 3-8 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer's Association, a disease Kathy's father suffered from, would be greatly appreciated by the Wilk family.
