Dolores Lawyer, 80, a longtime resident of Kinnelon, died Sunday, March 15, 2020 at Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Born in Jersey City, Dolores was the daughter of Vincent and Elvira (nee DiPerna) Giammona. She and her brother started out life in West New York, and moved to East Paterson when Dolores was 16 years old. She went on to graduate from Lodi High School.
While at a church dance, Dolores met Charles Lawyer. The couple wed in 1962, and started out married life in Clifton before settling in Kinnelon in 1972. There, they raised a son, Jeffrey, and two daughters, Catherine and Susan.
When Dolores wasn't busy caring for her family, she loved nothing more than sitting in a quiet corner to read one of her mystery novels. She frequented the Kinnelon Library, and was able to make a visit there just a week ago.
Dolores also loved to travel, and during her 48 year marriage to Charles, they vacationed to Italy, Greece, Turkey, and all over the United States, including Hawaii. The couple escaped the cold NJ winters to West Palm Beach, Florida, for years, and enjoyed their time there as well.
Dolores is lovingly survived by her children, Jeffrey Lawyer, Catherine Blasi and her husband Michael, and Susan Mette and her husband Douglas; her brother, Vincent Giammona; her grandchildren, Amanda Blasi, Carmellina Blasi, and Nathanael Mette; as well as her brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and many nieces, nephews, and their children.
She was predeceased by her husband, Charles, in 2010.
Due to the current restrictions of the Covid-19 pandemic, the funeral services for Dolores will be held privately on Friday.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Friends of the Kinnelon Library, 132 Kinnelon Road, Kinnelon, NJ 07405 or St. Jude's Children's Hospital (www.st.jude.org) would be greatly appreciated by Dolores' family.
