Herbert D. Coyne, 80, a longtime resident of Pompton Plains, died February 9, 2021.
Herb served in the U.S. Army from 1957-1961. His service with the Army allowed him to earn both his GED and BA, and later Herb earned his MA in theology.
His first sales job was selling bibles door to door. He then worked for IBM for 13 years. In 1980 he became part of the founders of NJ based computer company The Ultimate Corporation. In 1995, he became a Weichert Realtor and in 2013 he moved to Realty Executives.
Through the 12-step recovery program, Herb became a Deacon and quite involved with the Friars at St. Anthony's Church in Butler. He served the Catholic Community in Pompton Plains as a Deacon for many years at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, and was primarily focused on the ministry of addiction recovery and the ailing and aging.
Herb is lovingly survived by his wife, Diane (nee Milano); his son, Timothy; and was predeceased by his daughter, Christine. He is also survived by his step-children, Ric Mazza and wife Lauren, and Raina Yurchek and husband Kevin; his sisters, Patty Gorman and Florence Kirtsos; as well as his grandchildren, Dan, Bryan, Joey, Sophia, Brody, Brooke and Dallas.
Visiting hours will be held from 5:30 to 9:00 pm Friday, February 12 at Our Lady of Good Counsel RC Church, Pompton Plains. A funeral Mass will be held at the church at 1:00 pm Saturday. Cremation will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Our Lady of Good Counsel RC Church or the St. Anthony Friars of Butler, NJ would be greatly appreciated by Herb's family.
