Edward J. Halligan, Sr., 87, of Pompton Plains, passed away on March 5, 2018.
The son of the late James and Teresa Halligan, Edward was raised in the Bronx. He married Mildred DiSpaltro in 1952 and the couple remained in the Bronx to raise their two sons. Edward served in the US Army National Guard and was very supportive of the military. He was a hard worker from an early age and enjoyed reading in his spare time. He served as a Scoutmaster and was a devout Catholic, serving as an usher and member of the Holy Name Society of St. Francis of Rome. Above all else, Edward loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them.
Edward is survived by his wife, Mildred; his sons, Edward, Jr. and Michael; and his grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, Kristina, and Eleni. Visiting hours will be held from 4 to 7 pm Thursday, March 8 at the M. John Scanlan Funeral Home, Pompton Plains. A funeral Mass will be held 11 am Friday at Our Lady of Good Counsel RC Church, Pompton Plains. Entombment will follow at Garden of Memories, Washington Township.
