Charles J. Scanlan, Manager, NJ License # 3044: Charlie is a third-generation owner & manager of the funeral home. A graduate of St. Leo’s College in Florida, he attended the American Academy McAllister Institute of Funeral Service in New York City, graduating & starting his career in 1971. He is a member and Paul Harris Fellow of the Pequannock Valley Rotary Club, and is a member of the New Jersey State Funeral Directors Association.
Kiera Scanlan-Wespestad, Director (NJ License #4709) Kiera is Charlie’s daughter and the fourth generation of Scanlan funeral professionals. A 2003 graduate of Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, PA, she earned her degree in Mortuary Science after graduating from the American Academy McAllister Institute of Funeral Service in 2006. She is a member of the New Jersey State Funeral Directors Association. An avid runner, Kiera lives with her husband Thor and their black lab, Emma, in Hardyston.
Christopher J. DePuyt, Director (NJ License #4728) A graduate of Towson University in Maryland, Chris joined the staff in 2005, first working as an apprentice before earning his degree & license in Mortuary Science in 2006 after attending the American Academy McAllister Institute of Funeral Service in New York City. Chris is a member of the New Jersey State Funeral Directors Association. He lives with his wife, Kristen, and their two children in Jefferson.
Amanda Gates*, Intern: Amanda, after earning her Masters in Physical Therapy from Misericordia University in Pennsylvania, is currently working toward her license in Mortuary Science. She is enrolled at the American Academy McAllister Institute of Funeral Service in New York City, and is expecting to graduate in the summer of 2010. Recently engaged, Amanda and her fiancé will soon settle in West Milford.
Mary Ellen Scanlan*, Vice President/Bookkeeper: Helping to manage the day to day activities at the funeral home, Mary’s role is primarily as an office manager & bookkeeper at the firm. She holds a degree in financial accounting from Elizabeth Seton College in New York. Mary volunteers her time with the Rainbows Program at St. Mary’s Church in Pompton Lakes when she isn’t busy mothering her three children, now in their twenties.
Robert Vreeland III*, Assistant to the Directors: formerly a Captain with the Pequannock Twsp. Police Department, Bob has been part of our staff since his retirement in 2001. His responsibilities are vast and ever changing, and he is a very valuable asset to our firm. Currently living in Butler, he is looking forward to retiring to Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia with his wife, Debbie.
Barbara Scanlan*, Corporation Secretary: Barbara, Charlie’s sister, is a retired Teacher and Librarian from the Pequannock Township School System. She assists the staff by answering the phone and greeting people in the office during our off hours, but many would be most familiar with the site of her working in the gardens of the funeral home.
