Isadore Lautenberg, 90, of Kinnelon, formerly of Pompton Plains, died at home Saturday, January 28, 2012.
Immigrating from Germany in 1948, Isadore was the only son of eight children. Born to Wolf and Sarah Lautenberg, a Jewish family, they were victims of the Holocaust, spending most of World War II in the Lodz ghetto and concentration camps. Only Isadore and two of his sisters survived. Marrying Linda Linder in Germany in 1951, they first lived in Brooklyn and later moved to Pompton Plains where he purchased the Atlas Stores in Marco Plaza. In 1976 they moved to Kinnelon, Isadore sold his stores, and became a realtor, working with Weichert Realtors in Pompton Plains.
Isadore is survived by his wife of 61 years, Linda; his daughters, Debra and Regina Lautenberg; and his grandson, Peter Lautenberg. A Memorial Service will be held 11 a.m. Sunday, February 5, 2012 at the M. John Scanlan Funeral Home, Pompton Plains. Friends are welcome to visit with the family before the service begins, starting at 10 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations to plant a tree in Isadore's memory (via the Arbor Day Foundation at www.arborday.org) would be greatly appreciated by his family.
