Julia Ann (Julie) McGovern, 90, passed away at home, surrounded by her family,
following a long illness on Monday, January 23, 2012.
Julie earned her BA in English from Brooklyn College in 1944 and worked as a secretary for US Steel Export Corp. She married John on February 1, 1947 and the couple moved to Radburn, NJ where they raised 6 children. Julie enjoyed gardening, bridge, bowling, tennis, golf and loved completing the daily NY Times crossword puzzle. She was an avid reader and a die-hard NY Giants fan. Julie happily volunteered for many years for Meals on Wheels, the Radburn Library, and St. Joseph's Hospital. Most important of all was raising her six children, visiting with her much adored 8 grandchildren and, for 64 years, being a most loving and devoted wife to her beloved husband.
She is survived by her son, Peter, and her daughters, Amy, Jane, Irene, Mary Rose, and Kitty. She was predeceased by her husband, John and her sister, Jane.
Julie's children will always remember her as being the sweetest, kindest and most wonderful mother a family could ever be blessed with.
A memorial service will be held 1 PM on Saturday, January 28 at Cedar Crest Chapel, Pompton Plains. Inurnment will follow at Laurel Grove Cemetery, Totowa. Friends may visit with the family from 12:30-1 PM prior to the service at the chapel.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Care Alternatives Hospice or Alzheimer's Association.
