Former NJ resident Helen A. Wisz, 98, died on January 20, 2012, at her home in Pequannock, NJ with her son Rick by her side.
Helen, also known as Babci, was born January 9, 1914 in Boston, MA, to Josef and Ludwika Krol. Babci lived her life “Full of Pep”, “Happy, go lucky”, and with a smile on her face.
Early in life, Helen helped her parents and 9 siblings work on their farm in Przykop, Poland. In 1935, she moved back to America as a young, hardworking woman eager to make a living and teach herself to read, write and speak english.
In 1940, Helen married her husband, Stanley Wisz and moved to Passaic, NJ to raise their children, Christine and Richard. Helen spent her life as a devoted mother and remarkable homemaker. Helen’s meals and desserts would keep a belly full for days and our hearts filled with love for a lifetime.
Babci is survived by her son, Rick S. Wisz of Pequannock; her sister, Stella Bober of Brooklyn, NY; her grandchildren, Richard H. Wisz and his wife Kimberly of Highland Lakes, Tara N. Houser and her husband Marc of Wayne, & Derek M. Wisz of Millburn; three great-grandchildren, Lilliana S. Houser, Gavin H. Wisz & Kayla J. Houser; and many family and friends in America and Poland.
A funeral mass will be celebrated 10:00 am Monday, January 23 at St. Joseph’s RC Church, Passaic. Interment will follow at East Ridgelawn Cemetery, Clifton. Visiting hours will be held from 1 to 5 pm Sunday at the M. John Scanlan Funeral Home, Pompton Plains.
