Ruth L. Convoy passed away peacefully at her home in Pompton Plains, N.J. on Friday, January 13, 2012. She was 93.
She was born in Clifton N.J., the daughter of August and Evelyn (nee Van Ness) Stolz. For most of her childhood, she attended schools in Clifton until her family moved to Pompton Lakes where she graduated from the high school in 1937.
In 1942, while working for the Nutley Mortgage Company, she married Chester J. Convoy who predeceased her in 1995. After the war, they moved to Pompton Plains where she became a mother and housewife. She was one of many who helped raise funds for the contruction of the
original Chilton Memorial Hospital. Beginning in the late 1960s, she became Dr. Chilton's insurance clerk and later continued in that position for Drs. Manrodt and Ross. At the time of her death, she was one of the oldest members of the First Reformed Church of Pompton Plains.
Surviving are her daughter Lynn Rogers and her son-in-law Thomas Rogers of Lincoln Park, N.J. as well as her son Mark Convoy and her daughter-in-law Mary Marcus of Glen Rock, N.J.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, January 19, at the M. John Scanlan Funeral Home from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held at the First Reformed Church on Friday, Jan 20 at 10 am. Burial will be private at Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Paterson.
