Peter Scilla, 90, passed away at Emeritus Senior Living on Friday, December 30, 2011 in Wayne, New Jersey.
He was born and raised in Jersey City, and proudly served his country as a soldier in the 5th Army in the European Theater during World War II. He was a lifetime member and past commander of Disabled American Veterans. After serving in the US Army, Peter moved to Corona, NY and married Rose Marie Gentile. The couple then moved to Clifton where they raised four children. He was a retiree from Teamsters Locals 707 and 641. Peter was a parishioner and choir member at St. Philips Church for more than 20 years. He was predeceased by his wife Rose Marie in 1970. He later married Marie DeNoia and moved to Green Briar II in Brick, NJ where they resided for 30 years till her death.
He is survived by his sons Peter and wife Merrilee, Ron and wife Mary, his two daughters Susan Brienza and husband Rock, Pam Domino and husband Joe and stepson Emanuel DeNoia and wife Rowena. He is also survived by his six grandchildren, Allison, Jason, Lauren, Jaime, Daniel and Steven and great grandchildren Evan and Sophia and Step grandchildren Rowena, Joseph and Steven. He was predeceased by his brothers Dominic, Phil and sister Mary Russo.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Manificat RC Church, Kinnelon. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Paterson. The family will receive visitors at the church from 8:30 - 10 a.m. prior to the Mass. In lieu of flowers please make contributions to “Compassionate Care Hospice Foundation Inc.” (cchfoundation.net).
